Thank you for your interest in Camp Crinkleroot 2018. We have reached our maximum capacity for camp applications! Please feel free to complete an application and your name will be added to our waiting list.
Camp Crinkleroot is a program sponsored by the Appalachian State University Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Institute for Health and Human Services. This is a weekend day camp that offers a typical camp experience for children in the community who are ages 8-14 with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The 8th annual camp will take place this year at the former Camp Sky Ranch over the weekend of April 27-29, 2018. Camp Sky Ranch is steeped in history as one of the first inclusive summer camps in the country and is now home to Sky Valley Zip Tours.
In 2018, Crinkleroot will be staffed by approximately 30-40 volunteer counselors from Appalachian State University who will attend a training prior to camp. Each camper will be paired one-to-one with a counselor throughout the camp day. The groups will participate in a variety of activities including outdoor recreational activities, expressive arts activities, group interaction games, a campfire and other fun camp activities. All activities at Crinkleroot will be modified to provide a fun and enriching weekend for each individual camper.
Siblings are welcome to attend Crinkleroot! We will have some combined activities and some special activities just for siblings!
